When they said you were gone,
My mind did not absorb that thought:
I saw you walking down the stairs
head slightly stooped, dignity in pace;
I heard your voice, grave and calm,
never raised, your nod
of understanding, or of praise,
Your commitment to duty, unfazed:
I felt again your deep desire to bind your clan,
Thus in our minds you'll ever stand.
