No Reason to Stay

Every day a bubble burst
Every day a dream lost
Every day distances stretch
No reason to stay

Every smile a dagger hides
Every word shows different minds
Every step finds roads diverge
No reason to stay.

What’s gone is gone, no returns
What’s done is done, ne’er undone
Times spent will not bend in circles turn
No reason to stay.

Masks

Masks put on
to face the world
Masks concretized
to become face
Tortured grimace hides
Behind smiling exteriors
Thoughts, sordid or lofty
Locked under set stance
Impossible to crack
Impregnable as mountains
The mask lives on
through life
The mask lives on
beyond death.

Masks crafted
to impress
Masks constructed
to mislead
Agenda unrevealed
Falsification concealed
Photoshopped
Cropped and edited
Living dual lives, or more
Realities beyond reality
A world full of masks
Unable, unwilling
to unmask
in life and death.

On Aging

Age creeps up unnoticed
Hiding behind day-to-day living
Age enters as visitor
Maintaining decorum
Age comes as pinpricks
Easily ignored
And as days pass
Age makes living tedious
Age becomes permanent residents
Age rips body and mind.
Yet souls still fly
Yet souls still stir
For souls never age
And souls revive.

Don't give: It's mine

You'll give me my rights
Thank you; that's kind, I'd say
But how do you give me
What's already mine, pray?
Borne in similar wombs
Sustained by same air
How do you see me
As a Second sex, just fair?
I'll go out or stay in
I'll live by own will
Don't tell me what to do
I've brains, same as you.
If you can't see that
I hardly care
Live life as equals
That's my dare!

Reflections On International Women's Day

A day set aside
A day celebrated with pride
To praise and eulogize
Even as wombs spill blood
Of unborn girl- child
As silent suffering suffocates
those that stay alive.
Curbs and restrictions
dogging each step
fingers pointed, voices raised
in admonition;
till tortures turn stale
to become her tale.
Dreams nipped in the bud
dreams unuttered
hearts drowned in blood
shackled and fettered
Every day, Every hour, Every turn
a matter of concern.
Yet WOMANHOOD unfurls
evolving with each twirl.
