Down Not Out

 Those old knees creak

They feel so weak

Buckle under weight

They always berate.

The strained lungs huff

Breaths grow gruff

No longer trained

With work to be friends.

Now eyesight dims

Peers close at screens

Unable to see

What's out their in seas.

Teeth shift and rattle

Each bite a new battle

Prepared to fall out

However one pouts.

That heart goes thump thump

As if climbing a hump

For e'er hard pressed

Its pumping distress.

Yet mind says run on

There's more o the song

Still not in a grave

Be blithe, be brave.

Full days  follow

Life's not fallow

Horizon is blue

Believe that's true,
